These Hungarian Cheese Scones has a salty and cheese taste and we call the "Pogacsa". When we have a party at home always can find some of these on the table and is really good with beer on the hot summer days and at winter time with a hot soup, or when we go for a long walk it is a great snack on the way. The taste is a bit rustic because of the goose or duck fat.
I find a recipe on the net, but like all the time, I made changes, this time was so good I had to bake this "Pogacsa" twice that week.
Here is the ingredients, and I make some notes what else can you use instead if you don't have one of them at home or you can not but where you live.
As usual I use my bread-maker machine for the dough, the program about one and half hour with leavening. If you don't have a machine use your hands for kneading.
Ingredients
2 dl milk, depends on the potatoes
2 tea spoon salt
1 table spoon sour cream / cream fresh
1 table spoon duck or goose fat ( if you don't have use margarine)
350 g flour (half of it bread flour)
150 g mashed potatoes or 3 table spoon potato flakes
15 g fresh yeast
150 g grated cheese, like mild cheddar
1 whisked egg
You put everything in the bread making machine, choose the right program, which for me is dough together with leavening, it is about one and half hour. Or use a big mixing bowl knead every ingredients together for a smooth finish, cover with tea towel and leave on a nice warm place for about an hour, until the dough size will be double.

Put your dough after raising, on a floured surface, roll out with a rolling pin about 1 cm thin ( third of an inch), fold all four sides, like on the picture, and leave it for 20-30 minutes, cover with a tea towel to not to dry out.
Use your rolling pin again and roll the dough out about 2-2.5 cm thick ( about an inch), brush with the whisked egg, sprinkle with grated cheese.
Use a small glass, a cookie cutter or just a sharp knife if you don't want to have a round "Pogacsa".
I used the big baking tray from the oven with baking paper, I put the round shaped scones on the tray and I heated up the oven for 180 - 200 Celsius just 2 minutes before the tray was full.
After 15-20 minutes I checked if it was nice and golden and I took out from the oven.
It smells nice and you will definitely try it when it is still warm.
Enjoy!
